Members of various Nadar organisations today called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and thanked her for taking up with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh removal of objectionable references made in respect of the Nadar community in the NCERT textbooks.
An official release here said office-bearers of Nadar Mahajana Sangam, Datchinamara Nagar Sangam, Vellaichami Nadar College, Nellai Tuticorin Nadar Magamai Paripalana Sabha, Chennai Vazh Nadar Singam, Tamil Nadu Nadar Peravai, Nadar Mahajanam magazine, Bombay Nadar Association and Triplicane Nadar Sangam met the Chief Minister at the state Secretariat here and thanked her.
State Minister K T Pachaimal and Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi were present during the meeting.
Earlier this month, Ms Jayalalithaa sought the intervention of Dr Singh to remove objectionable references to the Nadar community in the class ninth social studies textbook of the NCERT.
She urged the Prime Minister to advise the Ministry concerned to take immediate action to remove the topic 'Caste Conflict and Dress Change' from Chapter VIII of the IX standard Social Studies CBSE textbook published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training.
