Amritanandamayi Devi to address Asia, S Pacific consultations in China
Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi will address the Asia and South Pacific Regional Consultations on the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) in China tomorrow, according to a statement.
The conference will take place in Shanghai tomorrow and on November 30.
Titled "Harmony through Diversity and Dialogue", the consultation will provide an interactive and informal platform for exchange of views on how the Alliance of Civilisations can develop its roots in the Eastern part of the world, identifying key issues to be considered and potential projects to be developed that meet the needs and expectations of the region, the statement said.
The Alliance of Civilisations was launched in 2005 by the former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The primary mission of the UNAOC is to form collective political will and to mobilize concerted action at institutional and civil society levels aimed at improving understanding and cooperative relations among nations and peoples across cultures and religions and, in the process, helping to counter the forces that fuel polarisation and extremism.
This will be the first time Amma will be visiting China.
During the past three decades, Amma has conducted programmes throughout the world. For nearly 20 years, Amma has been a regular keynote speaker at international forums concerned with world peace and religious harmony, the statement added.
The statement further said Amma has built a vast charitable humanitarian organisation, the 'Mata Amritanandamayi Math' whose headquarter is in Kerala, which serves all people regardless of caste, social status or religion.
