Hindustan Football Club, one of the premier clubs in the northern part of the country, added another feather to its cap by becoming the maiden top-flight club to launch its women's football team.
The formation of the women's team is a giant step taken by the club in promoting the game since no other I-league teams (both first and second division) has a women's team at present.
Announcing the launch of the team, Club President Sushil Pandit said the decision was taken to support and popularise the game among women.
"The Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) is also looking to kickstart its women's league and Hindustan FC, being one of the premier clubs in the country, we have decided to start our women's wing," he said.
The team, which will be captained by Indian under-19 international Neha Kapoor comprises of some national level players - Kuhelika Guha, Nancy Gupta, Neha Yadav and Pooja Manderwal among others.
