Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abudullah Wednesday thanked DMK chief M. Karunanidhi for his party's support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Karunanidhi Tuesday announced his party would vote in favour of foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail if a debate on the subject was followed with voting in the current winter session of parliament.
The DMK had earlier opposed FDI in retail, causing anxiety to the government.
"I thanked him for the support given to the UPA. We are grateful to him," Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference (NC) chief, told reporters here after meeting Karunanidhi.
He said the union government was on a strong wicket not only on the issue of FDI in retail but also on many other matters.
Both the DMK and the National Conference are part of the Congress-led UPA government.
