US woman owes USD 105K in parking fees for abandoning car at Airport lot
A woman from Chicago owes an incredible 105,000 dollars in parking fees after her car was "dumped by her former boyfriend at O'Hare Airport lot."
Jennifer Fitzgerald has claimed that the hefty total added up after her former boyfriend abandoned a car registered under her name at O'Hare International Airport parking lot three years ago, the New York Daily News reported.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, she said that she doesn't believe she's responsible for the 678 parking-related tickets - worth 105,761.80 dollars - and has filed a lawsuit to contest the fees.
She argued that the 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo should have been towed by the city early on as under Chicago law, a car parked without authorization in a city lot for more than 30 days, can be seized.
According to Mike Brockway, who runs the blog The Expired Meter, Fitzgerald said that her former boyfriend, Brandon Preveau, bought the Monte Carlo for 600 dollars from her uncle and, without her knowledge, put her name down on the registration.
The couple had a child together, but broke up in 2009, she said. He still used the car to drive to his job for United Airlines at O'Hare Airport, and "on or before November 17, 2009, Brandon drove the Automobile into the Parking Lot and never drove it out again," according to the complaint.
That's when the car started receiving tickets at the lot.
The car was finally towed and impounded last month, but Fitzgerald's driver's license has been suspended because of all of the unpaid tickets, according to CBS 2 Chicago.
