US envoy says 'America supports Pakistan's peace talks with Taliban'
US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson has said that the Obama administration supported Islamabad's peace talks with the Taliban and the release of some Afghan Taliban prisoners.
While addressing the concluding ceremony of the Pakistan Industry Conference Olson also appreciated the joint peace efforts from both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to the Express Tribune, he stated that the US welcomes peace talks amongst the Afghanistan Peace Council, Afghan Taliban prisoners and Pakistani authorities.
He expressed concern over the security situation in North Waziristan and affirmed that the US considers the operation against the Taliban in North Waziristan to be an internal matter for Pakistan, the paper said.
Olson added that both Islamabad and Washington 'acknowledge extremism to be a common problem which should be addressed properly'.
