Odisha power requirement stands at 2751 MW- Minister
Odisha requires 2751 MW of power during 2012-13, Minister for Energy Arun Kumar Sahu told the state Assembly today.
Replying to a question of Mr Jitu Patnaik (Cong), he said as per an assessment made by the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission, the state would require 7371.3 (MU) for domestic consumers, 2220.69 MU for business establishment and 6175.74 MU for industrial units.
Mr Sahu said from April to September this year while the hydro power projects had generated around 714 MW, about 1971 MW was generated in thermal power projects.
He said 200 MW of power borrowed from West Bengal during the last summer through power banking and power trading corporation had been returned in September.
In addition to it some power shortage was met through unscheduled interchange and trading.
The minister said this year the water level in various reservoirs was satisfactory due to good rain. Efforts were on to manage it efficiently to meet the power requirement in the coming days.
The government, the minister said, was expecting to get around 100 MW of power from GMR Thermal power plant before the coming summer seasons.
