Odisha Assembly adjourned till thursday after obituary references

Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat today adjourned the House till November 29 as a mark of respect to former Odisha governor B Satyanarayan Reddy, six former members of the House and seven security personnel who died during the intervening period of the Assembly.

As the House assembled for the winter session, Leader of the House Naveen Patnaik moved the obituary reference to condole the deaths of the former governor,former ministers Bhagirathi Gomango, Harihar Swain, former members--Sarangadhar Pradhan, Manas Ranjan Mallick, Jagmohan Nayak and Kuliean Bage.

The House also condoled the deaths of R N Mahakud former CRPF ASI, Lambodar Sahoo, ex-Lance Naik, Basant Kumar Behera ex-guard (Both Defence) who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation and Manik Khilla, Jagabandhu Khemudu, Gourachandra Dalai and Bhagaban Nayak(all Gram Rakhi)of Odisha Police killed in Naxal attack.

The obituary reference was supported by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh, Mr Karendra Majhi (BJP), Mr Adikanda Sethi of CPI and Speaker P K Amat.

Moving the obituary reference Mr Patnaik said the demise of the former governor,former MLAs and the security personnel was a great loss to the nation and to their family members.

Mr Patnaik requested the Speaker to convey the condolence of the House to the family members of the deceased.

Later, the House observed one minute silence in memory of the departed souls after which the Speaker adjourned the House till Thursday, tomorrow being an official holiday for Raas Purnima.
