Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot felicitated London Olympian silver medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar, silver medallist shooter Vijay Kumar and four other bronze medal winners at the Vidhyanagar Stadium here this evening.
The Chief Minister gave away cash prizes of Rs 50 lakh each to the silver medallist (Sushil Kumar and Vijay Kumar) while Rs 25 lakh each to the bronze medallist MC Mary Kom (Boxing), Yogeshwar Dutt (Wrestling), Saina Nehwal (Badminton) and Gagan Narang (Shooting).
Apart from them, Rajasthan's Krishna Poonia (Rs 21 lakh), Paraolympian Jagsir Singh (Rs 5 lakh), Olympic shooter of Jaipur Shagun Choudhary (Rs 5 lakh) and rower Sandeep Singh (Rs 5 lakh) were also felicitated.
Congratulating the players, Gehlot said his government is committed to the development of sports and has already opened a basketball academy in Jaipur, a football academy in Jodhpur and a kabaddi academy in Kaurali and also increased the amount of prize money.
He also stated that the state sports policy will be finalised by March 2013. The policy was pending for a long time.
