The parents of a deputy sarpanch Surendra Gadgil were killed by unidentified people at Sutarpada in Gujarat, about 18 km from Peth taluka in Maharashtra's Nashik district.
The sarpanch's parents lived in Sutarpada in Gujarat where they were running a grocery store. The couple had four sons whe used to go to meet their parents in the day and return at night to Peth, police said.
The sons went as usual yesterday morning and saw everything quiet. They went to the back side of their parents' house and saw a window open. They then contacted the Kaprada police station in Gujarat and broke the door open.
The deceased were identified as Pundlik Gadgil and his wife Godavari. All the valuables in the house were intact.
A case of murder has been filed by Gujarat Police against unknown persons in this connection. Further investigations are underway, the sources added.
