Maharashtra Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif along with NCP women's state unit president Vidya Chavan today kicked off a year-long 'Shahar Swachata Abiyan' (Clean City Campaign) by garlanding the statue of Sant Gadgebaba Maharaj here.
As part of the campaign, a huge rally was taken out this morning from the Mahalaxmi Temple, which wended its way from main streets of the city before ending at Vitthal Ramaji Shinde chowk outside the Kolhapur Municipal Council (KMC) main building. The campaign will continue till November next year.
During the year, various programmes would be taken under this campaign.
Mayor Kadambari Kawale admitted that the problem of garbage in city has become very serious and said the intention of the rally was to create awareness among people about the garbage.
'We also discussed this problems in meetings with various political parties,' She said.
Besides Mr Mushrif, Ms Chavan and Ms Kawale, Ashwini Vagmole, deputy commissioner of KMC, was present among others on the occasion.
