DMK to support UPA in FDI vote

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK), a key ally of the UPA Government at the Centre, today decided to back the ruling dispensation, if there was voting on the contentious FDI in multi-brand retail.

In a statement here, DMK President M Karunanidhi said though the party had declared its opposition to the allow FDI in multi-brand retail, it took the decision to support the UPA to prevent the possibility of the government falling in this event.

Mr Karunanidhi said the BJP and few other parties were insisting on a vote on the issue.

If the Government faced any danger of falling, then there was a possibility of the BJP, which was making wild allegations against the Centre of causing a Rs 1.76 lakh crore scam in 2G licences creating confusion across the length and breadth of the country, or its allies assuming the reins of power.

If this happened, then one cannot know how many similar allegations it will start making besides there will be the danger of incidents like Babri Masjid demolition,Kar seva and anti-minorities acts.
