Tension prevails as ruling NR Cong MLA puts up road blockade

Tension prevailed as N R Congress Legislator Nehru along with his supporters put up a road blockade on the Anna Salai here demanding action against a former councillor who allegedly encroached upon a piece of land owned by the municipality.

According to police, Councillor Rajan was running a hotel on the Chinnavaikal Street and reportedly installed a generator for his hotel on the land owned by the Puducherry Municipality.

Mr Nehru had already urged the government to provide the land to him for constructing the legislator's office and he made an effort to take over it which was thwarted by the police.

Today, Mr Nehru's supporters attempted to take over the land following which police intervened resulting in an altercation.

Mr Nehru resorted to the road blockade along with his supporters demanding Rajan's arrest.

Senior police officials held talks with the agitators.
