Govt to not spare Red Sandalwood smugglers at any cost: Andhra CM
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Reddy today directed the district collectors and superintendents of Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor to take stern action against the Red sandalwood smugglers, even anyone involved in it.
The government would not tolerate red sandalwood smugglers at any cost in the state, the Chief Minister said and also instructed the district forest officials to put a constant vigil in the forest areas to pin down the smugglers including cutters.
In the recent Southern Zonal counicl meeting of Chief Ministers Chaired by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde held at Bangalore, Mr Reddy, who expressed serious concern over increasing red sandal smuggling in Andhra Pradesh, underscored the need to bring an all India legislation to control sandal wood smuggling in all states.
In order to control the rampant smuggling, effective coordination among the Southern States, more particularly between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh was also essentially required.
He also urged Centre to permit the state to export seized red sander to other countries.
