Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj today advocated higher subsidy for farm products, free education and healthcare to the farmers' families to help the country ensure food security.
Expressing grave concern over continuing incidents of farmers' suicides, he said the country should emulate some measures available for farmers in the west. They enjoyed good price for their produce and better living for their children, he said.
'if farmers get better marketing facilities, then suicide rate will come down. The government should think about this,' he said.
Speaking at an interaction programme between farmers and agri scientists at Gandhi Krishi Vigyan Kendra here, he said farmers' families be provided with better health facilities and their children should get good education. 'more important is that the farmer should get better price for what he grow on the field,' he said.
