Responding to a suggestion from the Supreme Court, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will meet her Karnataka counterpart Jagadish Shettar at Bangalore on November 29 in a bid to find a solution to the Cauvery River Water issue. An official release here today said Ms Jayalalithaa would meet Mr Shettar at Bangalore and hold talks with him over the issue.
The Tamil Nadu Government had filed a petition in the Apex Court seeking Karnataka to release Cauvery water due to the state under the Distress Sharing Formula to undertake Samba cultivation for the current year.
The case came up before the Supreme Court yesterday when it was suggested that the two Chief Ministers meet to thrash out the issue.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court had asked the Chief Ministers of both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to meet and arrive at an amicable solution to the Cauvery Water Dispute.
The Court wanted the Chief Ministers to meet in a congenial manner and discuss the issue in the larger interests of the farmers of both the states.
The Supreme Court advised both the states to adopt a give and take approach and meet along with experts to find a solution.
