Ethiopia shows interest in Kerala model of women empowerment

Ethiopia has shown interest in implementing the model of Women Empowerment Programmes of Kerala including Kudumbasree project, in their country.

Seeing women's active presence in local self-government bodies in Kerala, a delegation from Ethiopia made a request in this regard to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today.

The delegation, led by Minister for Women and Children Ms Zenebu Tadesse met the Chief Minister at his office. Greatly impressed by the programmes that contributed to the empowerment of women in Kerala, the Ethiopian team showed interest in implementing the model in their country.

The delegation opined that Kerala is truly a model for programmes that can pave the way for women empowerment.

Other sectors in Kerala that the Ethiopian delegation showed interest was agriculture, education and IT.

And for the entrepreneurs here, Ethiopia welcomed investments in its farm sector viz. coffee and sugarcane.

The Ethiopian delegation that met the Chief Minister comprised government officials and peoples' representatives.
