On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day hospital employees, management, doctors and para-medical staff across Bangalore Tuesday pledged their organs to promote the cause of cadaver transplant.

In this regard, Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation (ZCCK) will be providing each of the participating hospitals with Pledge Cards lending further impetus to the cause.

Hospitals pledging on the Day includes Global, Apollo, Baptist, Mallaya, M S Ramiah and Columbia Asia.

With an objective to create a unified forum in a first-of-its-kind initiative, leading healthcare professionals, hospitals, NGO's, media and other stakeholders from Karnataka came together to promote the cause of Cadaver Transplant and its importance.

Cadaver transplant is probably one of the most important advances in modern science, enabling patients to get a renewed lease of life.

However despite being a life saver, Cadaver transplant as a treatment option is yet to make any significant presence in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Group Medical Director and Chairman of Columbia Asia Hospitals Nandakumar Jairam said, "The industry initiative will be led by distinguished members of the healthcare industry and other important stakeholders including ZCCK, Gift Your Organ and Mohan's Foundation."
