'Test hopeful' Hastings says Siddle, Hilfenhaus deserve to finish Proteas job at Perth
Possible Test debutant John Hastings believes fast bowlers Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus deserve plentiful opportunities to prove they should hold their places for the series decider against South Africa in Perth.
National selectors added Hastings, a Victorian bowling all-rounder, New South Wale's Josh Hazlewood and Western Australia's Mitch Johnson to its squad, to complement reserve pace man Mitch Starc for the third Test, starting Friday.
While a decision to rest one of both of Siddle and Hilfenhaus, who combined to cover the mid-match loss of James Pattinson to injury at Adelaide Oval, would increase Hastings' chances of a Test debut, the hulking all-rounder said he was wishing his squad-mates a speedy recovery.
"If 'Sidds' [Siddle] is walking he's probably every chance to play at Perth. It's every fast-bowler's dream to play a Test at Perth so he'll be well and truly up for it," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hastings, as saying.
"Hopefully these guys pull up [well]. They deserve [another] crack at South Africa, they deserve to finish the job and get a series win," he added.
