Militant group Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel), which recently signed a peace pact with Union government and Assam state government was formally disbanded on Monday in Assam's Dima Hasao district, officials said.
The Jewel Garlosa-led militant group was disbanded as part of the tripartite Memorandum of Settlement (MoS).
During a function held at Haflong, district headquarters of Dima Hasao, the militant group was formally disbanded and members formed a NGO named DHD(J) Welfare Society.
"We want peace and development in the hill district," Niranjan Hojai, the DHD(J) leader said.
The leaders of the disbanded militant group are likely to joined politics.
Hinting about joining politics, Niranjan Hojai said that he will contest in next district council election from Diyungbra constituency.
"At present, we have not decided to join in any existing political party or form a new political party," Hojai said.
Meanwhile, DHD(J) had not invited the leaders of another faction group DHD (Nunisa) including its chairman Dilip Nunisa to the function.
A separate function will be arranged by the DHD (N) in mid-December at Haflong.
"We will arranged a welcome home function at Haflong on next month," Dilip Nunisa said.
The Dimasa Accord was signed between DHD(J), DHD(N), Union government and Assam state government in New Delhi on October 8.
