Endosulfan victims to get compensation : Kerala CM

Provision of assistance to Endosulfan victims have commenced, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said were today.

Talking to newspersons after holding discussions with the leaders of Opposition parties at his chamber here, he said necessary funds have been sanctioned for this.

The government has issued GO for including the persons with mental disability in the list of affected persons.

Decision regarding inclusion of persons with other disabilities in the list would be taken after carrying out discussions, he added.

The state would continue to take a strong stand in the Endosulfan case which is now in the Supreme Court. Senior advocate K K Venugopal would appear for the state, he informed.

Discussions would be carried out with officials ahead of giving the land of Thonakkal Asan Memorial for developing the highway, the Chief Minister stated.

Aadhar cards would be made mandatory for students.

However, those who do not have the card would also get the benefits, he said, adding that his government would ensure that the benefits given by the government for Copra procurement reaches farmers.

The Centre is giving Rs 5,500 per quintal for coconut procurement and state government is giving Rs 500 per quintal for the societies that procure coconut and convert them to copra, he added.
