James Pattinson to miss second consecutive Oz Test summer due to rib injury
Australian fast bowler James Pattinson is set to miss the rest of the Australian Test summer due to a rib injury.
It's the second consecutive Australian summer that Pattinson has been forced onto the sidelines by injury.
Pattinson had batted for Australia on Sunday's fourth day of the second Test against South Africa in Adelaide, but won't bowl again in the match.
"James Pattinson sustained a left lower rib injury, similar to a side strain ... which will effectively rule him out of contention for the remaining Tests this summer," The Age quoted Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris, as saying in a statement.
"Whilst side strains are not uncommon in bowlers, James' injury involves some damage to the end of the rib and will need further investigation at the completion of this Test to determine the best course of management and the timeframe to return to bowling," he added.
Pattinson suffered the injury while bowling on Saturday, the paper said.
Last summer, the 22-year-old was sidelined by stress fractures of a foot, it added.
