Suspected French jihadist arrested in Mauritania
A French national who is suspected to be a jihadist was arrested at Nema, a town situated 1, 200 km east of Nouakchott, when he was preparing to go to Timbuktu in Northern Mali, a security source told Xinhua on Thursday.
The same source said that the man who is aged above 30 years was taken to Nouakchott where he was questioned by investigators.
No information was given by the source regarding the identity of the suspected jihadist.
Some French jihadists were recently identified in the ranks of terrorist organizations that are presently operating from the Azawad region in northern Mali.
On Nov. 21, a French national aged 61 years old was kidnapped in the Malian territory by the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), after having crossed over through a border post in eastern Mauritania.
