IAC says Select Committee recommendations on Lokpal Bill are complete eyewash
The India Against corruption (IAC) on Friday rejected the recommendations made by Rajya Sabha Select committee on Lokpal Bill.
IAC member Manish Sisodia said that the recommendations are complete eyewash because the proposed Lokpal will function like a post box, where people can only drop their complaints.
"New Lokpal will be a post box, where people will drop their complaints and the Lokpal will refer it to CBI. The investigative agency will work under the government and the people in the power will never be punished," said Sisodia.
Asked about the proposed selection procedure of the key officials like CBI director, Sisodia said: "It has been said that the authority like CBI director will be appointed through a collegium, but the people in the power will only decide the list of the IPS officers from which one person will get selected and therefore that officer will not take concrete action against the government or the people in the government."
Earlier today, Select Committee tabled the draft of the Lokpal Bill in Rajya Sabha amid opposition ruckus on the issue of FDI.
Among its recommendations, the Bill provides the CBI to have a separate director of prosecution, who would be appointed on the recommendation of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
The Select Committee has also suggested that the prime minister should be brought under the purview of Lokpal, except for matters related to external affairs, internal security, atomic energy, and international relations.
