Engineering student dies under unnatural circumstances

The death of a 25-year-old fourth- year student of Regent Institute of Science and Technology here under Titagarh police station in North 24 Parganas last night caused concern amongst the students of the institute.

The institute authorities following the incident issued a notice declaring the college closed.

Arka Ghosh from Siliguri had been residing in the institute's hostel and was found lying in a pool of blood on the staircase of the hostel yesterday.

He was rushed to Peerless Hospital on the city outskirts where he succumbed to his injuries, institute sources said.

The notice of the institute also revealed that Ghosh had gone to the hostel roof but fell down on staircase on his way down at about 2000 hrs.

While the hospital authorities registered a police case with Purva Jadavpur police station during the admission of Gosh to the hospital, an FIR was, however, lodged by his local guardian today, claiming it an unnatural death inside the institute hostel.

Police here said they started an investigation into the incident.
