The Madhya Pradesh Assembly's Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh today demanded that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan issue a white paper regarding land acquired, from farmers and tribal folk, for industries.
"Since 2005, the Bharatiya Janata Party regime forcibly acquired such land at low prices. The Government should stop such acquisition in the name of industrial development or else the peasants' anger will create an explosive situation," Mr Singh said in a statement issued here.
Alleging that compensation is not being paid as per guidelines, he said that the rehabilitation policy is also not being followed.
"A report of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes made it clear that the BJP regime is becoming the cause of the ryots' ruin. The report mentions that land was forcibly acquired from tribal farmers in Anuppur and Singrauli districts," Mr Singh said.
Several peasants and tribal families are facing starvation, he claimed while adding that in Katni ryots have taken to the streets to fight for their rights.
"The regime's insensitivity towards farmers is proved by the fact that police recently used the Avtomat Kalashnikova-47 assault rifle to quell a peasants' agitation in Raisen District's Bareli town," Mr Singh said.
