Tunisia, 'which heralded the Arab Spring', would like cooperation with India in putting in place its electoral system as it moves ahead on the path for democracy, it was revealed here.

Speaking on the topic 'The Arab Spring: Tunisian Case', at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) here this week Tunisian Ambassador to India Tarek Azouz asserted his country was open to any best practices from India but at present the cooperation on the electoral system would be important as Tunisia marches towards democracy.

The Ambassador said Tunisia was and would remain a moderate state, as it had a long history of modernisation having abolished slavery in 1848, banned polygamy in 1956 and given equal rights to women.
