After an initial dithering over the seat arrangement, the Nationalist Congress Party today succumbed to the alliance partner Congress' diktat and announced a list of nine candidates for the scheduled to be held on state Assembly elections on December 13 and 17.
According to a party release, Jayant Patel, President, Gujarat unit of NCP and a close relative of Union Minister Praful Patel, will contest from Umreth constituency in Anand district.
Chandu Vaghasia would contest from Gondal whereas Kandhal Jadeja, son of godmother Santokben Jadeja, is being fielded from Kutiyana.
Nilesh Patel is slated to contest from Akota and Pankaj Chauhan would contest from Devgadh Baria. Navin Patel from Visnagar and Rajdeep Zamirkhan from Limbayat. Raghu Bharvad and Chandu Thakkar would contest from Shehera and Vav respectively.
Meanwhile, a section of Congress workers have protested against allocating Akota seat to NCP.
Earlier, the NCP had handed over a list of the names of 28 candidates to its alliance partner Congress for the seat-sharing arrangement but the latter has not paid any heed to the former's pressure tactic.
The NCP contested from eight constituencies in 2007 Assembly elections and had won three seats.
