Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar today lavishly praised the 65,000-capacity Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium located in Naya Raipur.
Describing it as the country's second biggest cricket stadium, he supported holding of Board of Control for Cricket in India-organised tournaments, training camps and exhibition matches involving Team India in it for development of the sport in the region.
Gavaskar, who went round the Stadium with Naya Raipur Development Authority Managing Director MD Kabre, witnessed an under-19 cricket match and gave some cricketing tips to the youngsters.
Earlier, Gavaskar had a meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital.
Last year, the state regime named the Stadium after Veer Narayan Singh who made the supreme sacrifice in December 1857.
