Over five lakh devotees, mostly the Kartik brat observers, today had a darshan of the holy feet of the Goddess Radha at the Sakhigopal temple on the occasion of holy Amala Navami today.
Only on the Amala Navami day the devotees can see the holy feet of goddess Radha, the consort of Lord Krishna, in the Sakhigopal temple situated 12 kms away from here on the Puri-Bhubaneswar National Highway.
Earlier, in the morning the temple servitors dressed the idol Radha in typical Odia attires and decorated her with sixty five types of gold ornaments.
The darshan began at about 0430 hrs. The devotees made a long queue to have darshan of the deity. They too worshipped the holy Amala tree situated in the temple campus. The darshan would continue till late in the night,temple sources said.
Anticipating a large crowd the district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the ritual.
Apart from raising barricades along the temple route eleven platoons of police, officers of various ranks and magistrates were engaged to regulate the pilgrim traffic.
District Magistrate N K Naik, sub-collector Udhab Chandra Majhi and Superintendent of Police R K Singh were present to ensure the smooth conduct of the function.
