Colourful tourism festival attracts visitors

Hundreds of visitors flocked to witness tourism festival known as Manipur Sangai Festival, 2012 at Hapta Kangjeibung , Imphal East.

The ten day festival officially began last night with a beautiful fire work at the venue.

Within the next few days, all the stalls will be fully occupied as last minute works were going on today. Since 2010 the tourism festival is organised every year as Sangai tourism festival as Sangai (Brow antlered deer) is found only in Manipur at Loktak lake. Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said the festival will enable people to showcase their cultural heritage, dance.

Every day cultural shows by different communities settled in Manipur will be presented.

About 800 stalls have been opened according to Tourism official.

Myanmar, Thailand officials and traders are also participating in the festival. As part of the festival power paragliding show was held at Koirengei today. Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association is also organising adventure programmes.

International polo tournament organised by Manipur Horse riding and Polo Association will also be organised from November 24. Polo officials said only four international teams can be accommodated this time as every polo players want to play at Manipur where the game of polo originated.

The polo tournament will be organised at Imphal Pologround considered to be the first polo ground in the world.
