Nine accused in gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh's fake encounter case of 2005 were shifted to a Mumbai jail under heavy police bandobast from Sabarmati Central jail here today.

The nine accused including former senior IPS officers D G Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh M N alongwith other police officials were taken out from the jail this morning and sent to Mumbai for their production before a special CBI court. The decision to shift the accused to Mumbai was taken following a Supreme Court order to transfer the trial of the encounter case to Maharashtra.

There were a total 11 accused lodged in various jails of the state. Former senior police officers Abhay Chudasama and N K Amin have been admitted to civil hospital here and they have sought exemption from appearing before the court in Mumbai on health grounds.

According to a senior jail official, all nine accused were accompanied by a team of 52 police personnel.
