President Pranab Mukherjee has referred to Union Home Ministry the mercy petition of Afzal Guru facing death sentence in the 2001 Parliament attack case.
The President has also sought the views of the Home Ministry on the mercy petitions of other death row convicts, sources said.
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has already made a public statement that he will decide the clemency petition of Afzal Guru within 48 hours from the time it reaches his table.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also said today that the her government has sent its recommendation to the Centre and now it is for the Centre to take a final call on it.
There has been popular public demand for expeditious execution of Afzal Guru after the hanging of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack convict Kasab.
Pakistan-based extremist group Taliban has threatened India with revenge for the execution of Kasab.
The Centre is most likely to speed up the process for final disposal of the mercy petition of Afzal Guru.
Nine security personnel were killed in Parliament attack on December 13, 2001.
