Cong to follow strict norms for selecting 2014 LS candidates
With an objective to field candidates with good image for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has laid down stringent norms for selecting candidates, said Mr Rudraraju Padmaraju, senior Congress leader and Government Whip in Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council today.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Padmaraju, who had been entrusted with the task of shortlisting the panel members in 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu said "the party's objective is to field candidates with good image, particularly they should not have any criminal record." "This strategy in the long run would definitely prove good for the party," he said.
He said the party would not mind fielding a locally prominent person or a philanthropist or even an industrialist, who had provided jobs for people, provided he had Congress affinity.
