BSE Sensex gains on value buying
The BSE Sensex rose 0.72 percent on Wednesday, as lenders gained on bargain buying and a weaker rupee stoked IT services exporters' scrips.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 131.06 points higher at 18,460.38 with 19 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.78 percent or 43.25 points higher at 5,614.80 on Wednesday.
Underperforming stocks picked up as cautious investors grew slightly more optimistic about the government's ability to push for economic reforms in the winter Parliament session.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold Rs. 50 to Rs. 32,400 per 10 grams while silver held steady at Rs. 62,000 per kg.
