BJP endorses Kasab's execution, says 'better later than never'
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday endorsed the execution of Ajmal Kasab, the prime accused for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
On hearing of Kasab's execution, BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the enemy of the country has been punished.
"Better late than never. This was in order. The enemy of the country has been punished," he said.
Another BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar also echoed similar sentiments on the issue, and said 'this is a belated news, but still it's a good news that Kasab has been hanged'.
"He attacked India. He along with ten terrorists attacked the very sovereignty of India. We must show to the world that yes if you commit something here and you attack India, this is what you will receive. And that is what has happened today," said Javadekar.
"President Pranab Mukherjee has given assent in record time because country wanted that to happen," he added.
Kasab was hanged at Pune's Yerawada Jail at 7:30 a.m. today after President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his mercy petition.
25-year-old Kasab had been lodged in the Arthur Jail Road here ever since he was arrested immediately after the attack in 2008. He was convicted and given capital punishment by the trial court on May 6, 2010 that was upheld by the Bombay High Court on February 21, 2011.
The Supreme Court subsequently upheld the sentence on August 29 this year.
166 people were killed in the Mumbai terror attack.
