The Punjab Transport department has asked the owners of the vehicles, who have applied and deposited the fee for the security registration number plates, to get new number plates, fixed on their vehicles within a week.
A spokesman for the Transport department today said that according to the guidelines of Supreme Court of India, the Transport department had initiated the process of fixing the security registration number plates on the vehicles from April 30, 2012.
The owners of the vehicles, who had deposited their fee for the security registration number could contact concerned District Transport Officers (DTOs) within a week, failing which the fee would be forfeited and they would have to deposit the fee once again.
The spokesman said that security registration number plates were mandatory for the vehicles registered after the April 30, 2012, failing which the government would have to stop running of the vehicles without specific number plates.
