Two Congress MLAs in West Bengal today quit the party and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after meeting its General Secretary Mukul Roy.

Humayun Kabir and Krishnendu Chowdhury, elected on Congress ticket respectively from Rejinagar in Murshidabad district and English Bazar in Malda district, forwarded their resignation letters to Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee.

"Our district president (Congress) and Member of Parliament Abu Hashim Khan Chowdhury treated me with step motherly mentality. Since long, I have suffered. So I decided to quit the Congress,' Krishnendu Chowdhury said.

Raising a similar allegation against the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, Humayun Kabir said, "I have already got in touch with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and held talks with Mukul Roy.' The possibility of the two Congress leaders joining Trinamool had been doing rounds for some time.

Both of them are likely to be inducted in the state cabinet during next week's reshuffle.
