The breakdown of the system of e-governance in the Barrackpore municipality in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district shortly after its launching on October one this year, stalled major services, including tax and mutation assessment among other things, causing harassment to the people of the area.
'Thus, revenue earnings of the civic body dropped considerably,' said a spokesman of the municipality here in the district.
People visiting the municipality office to pay the taxes and submit applications for mutation of their holdings had been refused regularly for last one and a month, the spokesman maintained.
'We have informed the service provider,' he said, adding it was nothing but negligence and failure of commitment on the part of the service provider to maintain the service.
