A Tamil film crew, which is shooting a film in Puducherry, landed in trouble as they allegedly broke the concrete side railings of a bridge at Nonamkuppam near here today, police said today.
The crew, which is shooting a Tamil film 'Randavathu Padam' directed by Amudhan, got permission to shoot the film on the Nonamkuppam bridge from Puducherry authorities, they said.
Since, they needed to shoot a scene of a school van breaking the rails and plunging into the river as the driver was talking over cell phone, they reportedly broke a portion of the concrete side railing.
Hearing the news, former PMK legislator Anantharaman and the villagers rushed to the spot and quarreled with the crew members. When the crew members stated that they had obtained permission for the shooting, the villagers allegedly assaulted them saying that the permission was to shoot the film on the bridge and not to damage the bridge constructed by the French.
As tension prevailed, Ariyankuppam police intervened to bring order. But by that time CPWD Assistant Engineer Kanniyappan lodged a complaint against the crew for damaging the bridge. Ariyankuppam police registered a case and seized the properties of the crew.
