At least 18 people including ten children were killed in a stampede during Chhat festival celebrations in Bihar's capital city Patna, media reports said Monday.
The stampede occurred at around 7 pm during Chhat festival celebrations at the Adalatganj Ghat on the banks of the river Ganges in the city.
Dismissing report that the deaths were caused due to the collapse of a makeshift bridge, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he had asked Home Secretary Amir Subhani to inquire into the incident.
"An inquiry would be conducted to identify the cause of stampede that resulted in the incident," he said.
"This incident took place not because of the collapse of a temporary bridge made of bamboo but due to stampede,"
