Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will declare Ernakulam District as the first in the country to achieve 100 per cent banking in the country, here on November 22.
Informing this at a joint press conference here, Union Bank Deputy General Manager S Jayamohan Nair, RBI Kochi General Manager C V George and RBI Thiruvananthapuram Assistant General Manager K D Joseph, said the district with more than six lakh households and over 32 lakh population had over 37 lakh savings bank accounts.
The Kudumbasree was asked to conduct a survey to find out those who did not have bank account in the district and various bodies, including local bodies, helped Ernakulam to achieve the unique distinction of achieving 100 per cent banking in the country, they said.
Union Minister K V Thomas, RBI Governor Dr D Subbarao, UIDAI Chairman Nandan Nilekani, among others, would also be present at the function, they added.
