Tamil Nadu CM allots rs 40 cr for modernisation of hospitals

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today allotted nearly Rs 40 crore for upgradation and modernisation of various hospitals across state.

An official release here said the government had been implementing various initiatives to ensure that people living in rural regions of the State could get treatment on par with their counterparts in urban areas.

"It is the mission of the Chief Minister to ensure that hospitals in districts are modernised in all aspects, in order to provide high quality treatment to the general public," the release said, adding the Chief Minister had allotted Rs 20 crore to modernise the operation theatres at Thirunelveli Medical College Hospital, Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, Thanjavur Medical College Hospital and Chengalpet Medical College Hospital.

Pointing out that an exclusive department to treat fire injuries had been functioning at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, the release said the Chief Minister had alloted Rs 4.85 crore to upgrade the department as a Super Speciality Centre and also to buy various equipment.

Also, Ms Jayalalithaa had allocated Rs five crore to a trust run by Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society to take care of children, whose parents had died due to HIV. Rs five crore would be added to the permanent capital fund which was already provided by the government.

The Chief Minister had allocated Rs 10 crore to modrnise autopsy wards at Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, Chennai Government Stanley Hospital, Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and Government General Hospital.

Recently, Ms Jayalalitha had ordered the expansion of the ambit of 'Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme,' allowing members registered under the Farmers' Protection Scheme to be covered.

The order ensured those from farming community get quality treatment, which in turn will result in their healthy life and better productivity.
