Cold wave sweeps Karnataka, winter sets in early: Weatherman

Winter has set in more than two weeks early in most parts of Karnataka following cold wave conditions sweeping across the plains and the minimum temperatures dipped in the tech hub of Bangalore, a weather office bulletin said.

Belgaum AP recorded the Lowest Minimum Temperature of 8.9 deg C in the state last night which is a record for the month of November during last 60 years while Raichur recorded the minimum temperature of 9.8 deg C, the lowest during last 120 years.

Bangalore shivered during the nights with mercury plummeting to 15 degrees C. The city recorded 13 degrees C on Thursday.

According to IMD office Director B Puttanna. the skies are clear and Northeast monsoon turned weak causing the chill.

Agro-meteorologist Prof M B Rajegowda attributed the change in temperature to dry winds blowing from the Northeast.

An IMD report said severe cold wave conditions prevailed over some parts of North Interior Karnataka and some parts of South Interior Karnataka during the last 24 hours.
