Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said the Congress-led UDF Government would not allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector against the interests of the traders here.

Inaugurating District Vyapari Bhavan Auditorium of Kerala Vypari Vyvsaya Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) here, he said the Congress-led UDF government was strongly opposing the FDI in retail sector, even though the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre was strongly sticking to its decision on FDI.

The opposition of the UDF Government was pointed out before the UPA Government by KPCC President and him to AICC President Sonia Gandhi, he said.

At that time, the Congress leader had said the state governments had the power to accept it or reject it. UDF Government was not fully against the FDI, because it had some good side too, Mr Chandy said.

He said in Kerala, the UDF government might think of it in future after clearing all the concerns of lakhs of businessmen in the retail sector.

He also said the UDF government had stood with the businessmen at all the time to solve their problems.
