Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday sought the support of Finance Minister P. Chidambaram for direct transfer of cash subsidies to poor people in the capital.
Dikshit was addressing a meeting of chief ministers of north zone states chaired by Chidambaram.
"The government has to transfer Rs.1,500 crore to the beneficiaries through electronic benefit transfer and banks have been insisting for documentary proof of the residence despite presentation of UID Aadhar card. This is causing obstacles in opening no-frill accounts," Dikshit said.
"We want banks to put in place a hassle-free process for opening of bank accounts by the poor people," she said.
