Violence in Forozabad after five persons die in road accident

Violece erupted in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, after a freight truck rammed into an auto rickshaw killing five persons and injuring a few others.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of the truck was drunk and was driving rashly, which resulted in the fatal mishap.
A large crowd of locals gathered at the spot and blocked the national highway No.2.
They demanded instant action of the authorities and justice to the victims.
Much commotion took place even after the police reached the spot and finally the use of batons prompted the restive locals to leave the place.
The police was compelled to baton charge the protesting locals since they were reluctant to let the bodies of the deceased persons be taken for post mortem.
Meanwhile, the administration announced hefty compensation to the deceased persons and also the injured in a bid to stem the uneasiness in the area.
"Compensation of rupees 5,00,000 (around USD 90,933) is being given to the kin of the dead victims. We have assured them if any more assistance can be given to them then it shall be considered. The matter is being looked into and the guilty will be brought to justice at any cost.
The injured people are being given rupees 50,000 as compensation," said R K Malpani, City Magistrate, Firozabad.
Reportedly, the police have nabbed the errant truck driver and further investigation is on.
