Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury on Friday said the Left parties will want to have a debate on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail issue in the Parliament.
He said the Left parties want the upcoming Winter Session of the Parliament to function properly.
"We want Winter Session to function...Left wants vote on FDI in Parliament," Yechury said while addressing a press conference on Friday.
Speaking on the CPI-M's current political position in West Bengal, he said: "No matter when the elections happen, we will perform better in Bengal."
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is likely to face a tough time during the Winter Session of the Parliament beginning Nov 22.
Yechury made the comments on a day when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be hosting a dinner for UPA allies on Friday.
According to reports, Singh is expected to finalize the government's strategy to face the Opposition's attacks during the session with respect to issues such as FDI.
Singh's efforts come in the wake of the Left having already tabled a motion in both Houses that will seek a vote on the FDI.
