The Tamil National Alliance (TNA), a major opposition party in Sri Lanka, has urged the government not to repeal the 13th Amendment but to introduce a devolution system based on four zones of the country.

TNA leader R. Sampanthan cautioned that any attempt to repeal the 13th Amendment to the Constitution could harm and irreparable damage to the country's future.

He made this remark at the fifth day of the second reading of the budget, and said no one should try to modify or nullify the 13th Amendment as it would cause more problems in future.

"The 13th Amendment was the only provision that recognized the diversity of the country to a certain extent," he said.

He also said that the government should abolish the provincial council system, which swallow a huge amount of money to maintain them.
