Three people were injured Thursday evening when unidentified assailants fired at salesmen of a liquor shop in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

Police said some unidentified assailants fired pistol shots at a liquor shop on the Boulevard Road, some three km from Lal Chowk city centre, injuring three salesmen.

"Three salesmen of the liquor shop were injured. They have been shifted to a hospital for treatment. A case has been registered and investigations have been started," a police officer said.

The Boulevard Road on the bank of the famed Dal Lake in Srinagar is the hub of tourist activity in the city.

Wine shops, cinema halls and beauty parlours were banned by some separatist groups in the valley in the early 1990s when the separatist violence started here.

As normalcy gradually returns to Kashmir, some wine shops and beauty parlours have already started functioning here.

Owners of various cinema halls in the city are, however, converting their establishments into nursing homes and shopping malls as they find running movie theatres both risky and unprofitable.
